It was an unforgettable scooter trophy weekend that went on stage in Castelletto di Branduzzo for the sixth race of the Polini Italian Cup with some titles decided only in the last meters.

With the title already won in advance by Matteo Tiraferri, there were all the prerequisites to see two races completely free of mathematical strategies. Filippo Corsi’s pole position left however think he had “agreed” with his rival and teammate. Instead Tiraferri fought hard. In Race 1 the two Polini official riders gave birth to an unique last lap, shoulder to shoulder, but always with a slight margin in favor of Tiraferri who finished in front of Corsi, Ripepi and Bartolini. In the second race Corsi was more determined, but always on the run with his rival. But when it seemed that they would resubmit the conditions for a new final duel, Tiraferri slipped on the last lap, leaving Corsi free to conquered the last 2012 race. The third step of the podium was for the excellent Bartolini followed by Ripepi and amazing Dutch Roufs, while Montagna finished only 11th.

94 BIG EVOLUTION SCOOTER OPEN

The script of this class may have been written by a specialist in thriller, since only after the end of the race you have figured out who among the three protagonists was victim or murderer (in this case the champion). Three names on all: Nico Morelli, Julien Vitali and Federico Ciacci, each with the same possibilities to win the race. Possibilities that in Race 1 have seen Vitali slip at the last lap compromising his side ambitions towards its two rivals. In race 2 Morelli leads the early laps but halfway the positions alternate between Ciacci, Vitali and Morelli, all still in the running for the title. On the last lap Vitali slips again, stands, and remains second. Ciacci is the champion of the Big Evo 94 Open title.

Even for this last match Stefano Scribano and Carlo Gurrieri were in nearly identical form, separated by only 3 hundredths of a second. The continuous overtaking is the confirmation of the wish to win the title, a pinwheel which was interrupted only at the end of the first race, when Gurrieri passed first under the checkered flag with a lead of 267 thousandths of a second on his rival. The final round started with Gurrieri ahead by three points in the provisional classification and with the Scribano’s fastest start-up at the green light. But once again it is a handful of milliseconds (191 to be precise) to decide the winner. Also in this case the photo finish gives the victory to Gurrieri.

Cesare Del Bonifro’s spoils, accumulated in the early races of the season, allowed him to face two races without taking risks. The young pilot of Vasto risked jeopardizing everything at the first lap, when a slip took him away from the scrimmage. In part he was helped by Emiliano Stevanoni, his direct rival, who slipped in the final lap leaving Bonifro still at the head of the provisional ranking with 13 points. Marco Lazzoni won Race 1, Alessandro Fogliani and Marco Ceriotti were second and third. In race 2 Del Bonifro started fast, but again when he saw that he could not leave the group behind he chose a more conservative tactic, letting Stevanoni and Fogliani pass before and then winning the title.

One race was enough for Gianluca Cuttitta to stop of Gabriele Camorcia’s ambitions. Cuttitta closed in the best way winning both races. Great debut for the young Nicolò Castellini, immediately at ease in his XP 4T 125 Polini with better qualification than the best. In the XP 4T class 150 Devis Catellani won all the races in which he participated and concluded with full score with 250 points (no driver of this category took part to Airola race). Only Cristian Rossi tried to approach him in the final stages of Race 2.
