THE RECORDS AFTER THE STORM

Fifth meeting for Polini Italian Cup 2013, full of emotions before the final rush; the championship virtually delivered the cup of Vespa 135cc Classic before the last race of September 15 in Viterbo, promising a sparkling show for the assignment of the remaining national cups. The second to last meeting in Cremona harboured the 2nd test of Polini Maxi Scooter Trophy, which directly competed with the historical “little scooters” on a real racetrack. Hot and muggy weather are the features of all races on Sunday, after the hurricane has laid this round on the line, on Saturday morning. But everything was alright from first to last session on the track, no technical problems. This confirmed the extraordinary performing features and the great liability of Polini racing products, even when properly “overused” on a racetrack whose length is 3450 metres, by breaking three lap records of 1’46’’994 for 70 Scooter Evolution Open, 1’46’’489 for Scooter 94 Big Evolution and 1’42’’726 for Maxi Scooter.

SCOOTER 70 EVOLUTION OPEN: THE DAY OF ROOKIE
These were the two richest Races in surprises on this day, the young Nicolò Castellini (on his fifth seasonal race), excellent at putting through two really explosive sections. Castellini, in fact, managed to leave behind the two championship leaders, Tiraferri and Corsi, and all the remaining adversaries in such a hard-fought class as 70 Evolution Open, by sprints and veteran-like extreme turns. The “elf” of Polini Scooter team initially challenged the championship leader Matteo Tiraferri in a duel that lasted all Race 1 long, by a sprint arrival, and left the third position to Filippo Corsi (injured because of the right shoulder blow for a fall at tests). New challenge in Race 2 between the “rookie” Castellini and the “master” Tiraferri, that ended by another splendid sprint victory for Castellini. Two second places for Tiraferri anyway, while the third final place on podium was for the Spanish “wild card” Ricardo Carmona. Once Corsi is out of podium, Tiraferri regained some ground in the championship.

SCOOTER ONE-BRAND 70 EVOLUTION POLINI: MORONI SPRINTS
Show and close contests for the main protagonists in this class. An interesting combat was shown in Race 1, in which Marco Moroni was prized thanks to his sprint, for 70 thousands gap over Alessandro Fabbri. Just two laps for Carlo Gurrieri who is bound to leave the race, after winning the previous test in Ortona. Race 2 completely changes. Gurrieri, in fact, is very good at taking a revenge, by a great return, on the bad luck of Race 1 when ending first by three seconds advantage over Moroni and more than five seconds over Fabbri. In this case too, the final race will set the champion in 2013.

SCOOTER 94 BIG EVOLUTION OPEN: SPRINTS TO THE LIMIT
This is the most uncertain amazing race ever seen until now, where all protagonists are in a single group from first to last lap, so compact that it was difficult to distinguish all overtakings occurring among all the bends. In the chaos of the most powerful scooters in the championship, the one who managed to make the most extreme sprints in the last bends could win: the sprint of Race 1 awarded Julien Vitali for just 13 thousandths over Nico Morelli, third is Simone Bartolini. Stefano Scribano out of race for a fall and right foot punch, after the absolute supremacy in qualifications. In Race 2, a little group of four riders took shape in the vanguard of the race, by sprints and spectacular trajectories. The sprint awarded Nico Morelli in this case, Vitali is second, Bartolini is third and we have a new parade with Morelli at 15 points from Bartolini only.

VESPA 125cc CLASSIC TROPHY: PARTY ATMOSPHERE
The two Races are won by the championship leader Matteo Piacentini, virtually the first champion in 2013 of Polini Italian Cup, one test race in advance. The bitter rival Benini is missing at roll call, he’s replaced by Filippo Corsi, and this fact favoured Piacentini’s final rush, in Race 1 (which was on short circuit set up, too), preceding respectively Corsi and Leaso, who performed a thrilling final sprint. Piacentini left behind Marco Leaso and Rutigliano in Race 2, even though Victor Grotto offered the greatest show thanks to his trajectories, but is the author of a slide.

SCOOTER 70 EVOLUTION FANS: THE GAME OF TRAILS
Rich thrilling races, Zani starting from pole position in the first fraction and immediately battling with Prischi, his rival with the same score as him in the championship. Throughout the endless straight road, the leading riders “eat” the trail and every passage on finish line is a tossup. The two leaders manage to leave everyone behind and on the last bend Prischi has the best of it. Second place Zani and third Andrea Modena. In Race 2, Zani starts very quickly, but is surprised by Modena at half first lap. Throughout 6 laps, a fight among 5 riders is shown, the chequered flag rewarded Zani over Modena and Prischi. Thanks to this result, the championship leader is Zani, but for just 4 points advantage over Prischi for a really exciting final in Viterbo

PIT BIKE XP 4T: ANOTHER STEP FORWARD
Nicolò Castellini sprints from pole position, even though the best is Cuttitta on the start leap, but he cannot put off Castellini and Camorcia all Race 1 long, who engage a fight of trails. Below chequered flag, the photo-finish shoots Fabbri surprising everybody before Cuttitta and Camorcia. In Race 2, the same scene, riders running shoulder to shoulder up to chequered flag, where Cuttitta ends up before Camorcia and Alessandro Fabbri. Cuttitta cannot win the cup because of 2 points, and has to push back the party in Viterbo.

POLINI MAXI SCOOTER TROPHY: RAPICAVOLI THE SOLOIST
The news on this weekend of Polini Italian Cup concerned the TMax crowding the paddock through a single race of 12 laps, as per regulations of Maxiscooter Trophy, which gave us a lonely sprint of Rapicavoli in Cremona, the absolute dominator of the championship who managed to cut the finish line, flawless and by drawing perfect trajectories, by 14 seconds advantage over Mauro Boschetti and 16 over Lucio “Lupin” Gatti. Thrills from the battle between the wild card Tiraferri, on loan from 70 Evolution Open championship, and Yari Valentini, rewarding the official Polini’s rider for just 1 thousandth advantage.
