FIRST RACE POLINI ITALIAN CUP 2009
REAL SHOW
The 2009 Polini Italian Cup on March 1st at Franciacorta (BS) has immediately offered his very rich technical and agonistic show, thanks to a large group of tuned-up scooters in order to have the best performance in the 70 Evolution Trophy and a group of unbridled riders.
After a 2008 season closed with great consents, and after some cold winter months spent at the testing desks to find the best set up for the scooter, the protagonists of the 70 scooter Evolution Trophy were anxious to come back to the track to start the new Italian show enveloped by the unique Polini light blue-white-blue.
Finally, after a long wait, the moment to quick again the agonist match has arrived with the first race of the 5 ones in program in 2009.
The top protagonists were Matteo Tiraferri and his official Polini scooter tuned up as “ laboratory” to test the brand new products soon available on the market.
The result was good considering that Tiraferri (Polini official rider in the Italian Championship for some season, n.d.r.) immediately gained the head of the race, never giving up till the arrive.
At the end of the fight, the Polini staff ordered to cancel Tiraferri from the classification as foreseen by the event rule.
A new rule introduced with the aim not to condition the sporting soul of the Trophy in case of Polini “official” presence, in order to leave space to the teams and their riders.
The winner of the 70 scooter Evolution Trophy was Daniele Picca, able to race side by side with Tiraferri, till overtaking him a couple of times.
Pica, with two second places valid as two victories, gained the first stage of the 2009 Polini Italian Cup. Behind him Adriano Sisti, brilliant in race 2, fighting with Massimo Mendogho, Ceriotti e Miniero; less good in race Race 1, when during the third lap he lost one position, placing in the latest positions.
Third final position for Massimo Mendogho who gained the third step of the podium thanks to his fifth and sixth places during both the races. Back against the expectations the champion in office Daniele Secchini who was only 11° and 9°; during the week end he wasn’t able to find the best set up of his scooter.
NEW MUFFLER
The new Polini exhaust system, that owes its name to the legendary Polini Scooter Team, finds its own ideal employment on the public ways, since it is homologated; therefore it can be fitted on all the 50cc scooters since it respects the phonometric rules about the exhausts’ noise.
Its incredible racing features and quality/price ratio makes it unique: the selling price for the Italian public is indeed of only €129,50 (VAT not included).
It perfectly combines very high performance, optimisation of the power output at every rpm, great reliability and maximum mechanical resistance.
The expansion chamber, with new racing design, is made of two special P04 steel shells at low carbon content; this is a material able to grant a very high resistance to vibrations. The final silencer, with direct exhaust, is made of light alloy.
The Polini Scooter Team exhaust system has been studied both for the liquid cooled 50cc “Code” kits and the racing cast iron ones.

MAXI EVOLUTION
MAXI SCOOTER ITALIAN TROPHY
If you do not like to be showy, the Italian Maxi scooter Trophy is not for you. On Sunday March 1st the opening race of the 2009 Polini Italian Cup at the Franciacorta (BS) track raised the curtain on this Italian Championship for Maxi scooter with Polini Motori as partner. The aim is that to develop on the track the new parts dedicated to this vehicles. The experience of this new category was absolutely positive and, despite of the slippery asphalt because of the rain that fell down during the afternoon, the show didn’t miss. In fact the Maxiscooter Trophy is a well consolidated event that has kept on growing from 2005. The categories are two: the SuperSport and the SuperStock.
In the SuperSport one the bikes can be tuned up completely but of the displacement and fuel system; while in the SuperStock category you can only change the muffler and variator. The report of the day was characterized by a fight with three riders in the sole race. On the wet track the final victory went to Gianluca Rapicavoli who closed the match by crossing the finishing line with 33 seconds of advantage on Marvin Medongho and one minute before Nazzareno Marco Giordani. At the beginning Giordani took the head of the race with some meters of advantage on Mendongho e Rapicavoli, but, lap after lap, the followers reached him, and he finished in the latest positions. With an incandescent duel, Mendongho e Rapicavoli have excited the second part of the race; but Mendongho did a couple of errors and Rapicavoli took advantage of this situation winning the race. The first three riders were also the winner of the podium of the SuperSport category, while on the three steps of the SuperStock podium went Massimiliano Caminiti, Luca Dallaglio e Giordano Risi, respectively fourth, fifth and seventh in the general classification.
MAXI SPEED CONTROL
The new Polini 12 roller "EVOLUTION" variator (the original variator has 8 rollers) for Yamaha T-Max with carburettor or fuel injection engine is the big novelty of this race. Polini provides the EVOLUTION Speed Control with two series of rollers of different weight, a special spring which assures a more specific set up and a fused aluminium alloy half-pulley with a high percentage of silicon which adjusts the belt to the new Polini variator's inclination. These peculiarities translate into a better sportsmanship as for the use of the T-Max at every rpm, into performing features of the engine, better longevity and even more extraordinary sprinting. The two different series of rollers assure low friction coefficient, better hardwearing and high temperature resistance and therefore better lasting. Balancing was carried out in an advanced work centre, which allowed to eliminate every possible vibration. This feature assures better reliability to the whole variator group. Rollers' wear is actually reduced of 50% at least with evident advantages for the rollers and for the whole variator group as well. Moreover, the play between the plate guides and the variator has been reduced, in such a way as to increase the duration of the guides and to eliminate the noisiness at low rpm. Also the other variator's inner parts are advanced: the casehardened and tempered steel piston pin is chromed; half-pulley, solid bronze bush with self lubricating graphite inserts, which assure a great sliding of the piston pin for a long time.

PIT BIKE SHOW
As in the big world challenges, also the participants to the 3 Trophies of the Polini Italian Cup opened the 2009 season with an extraordinary day of time-trial that anticipated the opening of these Italian Championships.
Handy minimotard, funny, useful to understand the agonistic values for the next races and immediately kindled by the pure sporting spirit and wish of the riders to take the winter rust off before the season started. On Sunday March 1st the protagonists of the three categories, Polini XP 4T 110 “Over”, XP 4T 110 “Under” and XP 125 Street agreed to meet on the track in Franciacorta (BS) in occasion of the first race of the Polini Scooter Evolution 70 and Maxiscooter Italian Trophies to compete in the time-trials.
Obviously, considering the level of the track, nobody took the race lightly and in a few laps it was immediately clear that at the end of the day it would have needed an appropriate prize giving according to the engagement shown. Under a drizzle that made every bend insidious, the men in charge to time the laps registered very good performance, starting from the very young “Under 110” riders, where the best performance was that of Riccardo Lodigiani, author of the first best time in the first trial and very fast also in the second trial.
Second Mattia Gollini, who was the fastest in the second time-trial but who was obliged to slow down because of a technical problem in the first race. Third Michail Lamagni. In the “110 Over” category the champion in office Devis Catellani gave up the crown, at least for this race, to Emanuele Frosi, supermorad rider, who was forth in the first race and who made the best performance in the second one. Catellani closed the day on the second step of the podium. The third fastest rider was Bruno Moreschi,. In the XP4 125cc Stree fight at the last second between Giovanni Ferdani and Roberto Bonomelli with the supremacy of Ferdani, who made the best time in the second race. Second on the podium was Bonomelli, followed by Agostino Ammirata.
