PICCA SUPER STAR

5th RACE OF THE POLINI ITALIAN CUP
INTERNATIONAL CIRCUIT OF POMPOSA
04/10/2009

Daniele Picca closes his great 2009 season winning the Polini 70 scooter Evolution Trophy. Thrilling overtakings and trepidations. The Polini Italian Cup gave in Pomposa a very spectacular ending show. Who knows the competitive spirit of the 70 Scooter Evolution Cup’s riders also knew that even if Daniele Picca has already won the championship last week, all the riders would have been protagonists of an amazing race to gain precious points for the 2009 results.

Furthermore thanks to the wild-card presence, out of the results, with the Polini official riders, Matteo Tiraferri, Niccolò Rosso and Cristian Mammi, the latest one riding a new prototype, gave great emotions. Tiraferri was the main protagonist; behind him a spectacular show took place thanks to the champion Daniele Picca, Rosso, Sisti, Ziarelli, Frisoni and Bartolini. In Race 1, after having fought for a couple of laps with Rosso, who then fell down, Picca immediately took the second position. Andrea Sisti and Davide Ziarelli raced for the third position, but during the fourth lap they crossed their trajectories falling off.

In their place, in race for the third and fourth place, there were Simone Bartolini and Alessandro Frisoni who finished the race one behind the other. Sisti and Ziarelli were protagonists of a good recovery and they finished the race in sixth and seventh position. Mammi, who started the race in the last position because he rode an “Evolution” model, was fourth. In race 2, behind Tiraferri, Picca and Bartolini fought for about 12 laps. At the end Picca had the better of Bartolini, who had a down in the last four laps that gave to Davide Ziarelli the possibility to gain the third position. Behind Bartolini the very good Mammi. Sisti finished only 6th because of a serie of errors.

LAST ACT

Devis Catellani (Over), Mattia Gollini (Under), Giovanni Ferdani (XP 4 125 Street) are the new Polini Pit Bike Trophies’ champions.

The last race of the Polini Italian Cup disputed in Pomposa on October 4th was again full of duels. In the XP 4 str. Over Trophy Devis Catellani, who was protagonist of an unexpected race in Viterbo that deprived him of the final victory because of a technical irregularity, arrived at the last race with only 16 points’ lead over Alessio Corneti.

In race 1 another letdown for him: started from the pole-position Catellani fall down twice and he closed the race in 9th position. Corneti, protagonist of a very good race, was first at the end of the race and he had 2 points’ lead over Corneti in the final classification. Race 2 was the conclusive one. This time Catellani didn’t make any error and once at the head of the race won it while Corneti finished in second position. Exciting duels between Emanuele Frosi, Jacopo Schirò, Carmine Napodano and Christian Rossi.

Frosi and Schirò fought in both the race while Giovanni Ferdani won the XP 125 Street Championship after a difficult race and by passing Agostino Ammirata at the last lap. His rival Roberto Bonimelli, the only one who would have been able to hinder him, was impressive: from the pole he dominated Race 1. In the XP 4T Under Trophy Mattia Gollini headed the race alone. He was able to demonstrate his superiority by winning both the races and adding 50 points to his booty. Behind him 2 second places for Nico Spallanzani who had the best in Race 1 against Simone Mazzola and in Race 2 against Riccardo Lodigiani.
