It was a weekend full of emotions, when the race on the opening day of Polini Italian Cup 2014 was disputed on the track in Castelletto di Branduzzo. Much competitiveness and passionate duels on the track, confirmations and news from the debuting race of Yamaha JOG scooters of Matteo Tiraferri and Filippo Corsi’s team; they are engaged in the development of the various “racing kits” for Minarelli engine and the miscellaneous “settings”; an already high-grade work in progress. Moreover, there were heated contests between the numerous participants of the race, with burning duels of successful names of this Italian championship and new pretenders looking for glory. News from the paddock and boxes, where there was a breath of curiosity and excitement. At the debut, the DLV teams, lined up by De Carolis in the new-born Scooter Evolution 100 Big Open and Andrea Modena in Scooter Evolution 70 Fans. It is remarkable, in “100 Big Open”, Matteo Tiraferri, at his debut in this class but on the saddle of Zip Polini 94cc, set a record time of 1’17’’049, on an imperfect track, because of water seepage.

SCOOTER EVOLUTION OPEN AND ONE-BRAND: YAMAHA JOG ALREADY COMPETITIVE
The 2013 champion of Scooter 70 Evolution, Matteo Tiraferri takes the leadership of Race 1 in the new spectacular formula that makes “Open” and “One-Brand” compete in combination, but on separate classifications. At start, a contact between Moroni (champion of “One-Brand” 2013) and Passanisi, who started from front row with third time. Meanwhile, Corsi, at the head of the group, overtook Gurrieri, reached Tiraferri and overtook him, too. Corsi keeps pole position till two turns to go, when Tiraferri surprises him in the internal side of a reverse slope, and wins by a hair over his team mate. Excellent debut in Open for Gurrieri, who ends on third place.
Good race for “One-Brand” riders, Fabbri (always on front row with the first ones) is first,, before Alessio Tarabella and Cristian Picciallo. On Race 2, a strained start for the leading duo Corsi-Tiraferri, that Domenico Passanisi joins, so much longing for a release from bad luck in Race 1, that seems to attack the couple Corsi-Tiraferri. In the fray, Fabbri slides, but afterwards he is the protagonist of an incredible come back and will win “One-Brand” before Serventi (excellent in Race 2) and Tognarelli. In “Open”, Tiraferri overtakes Corsi on the sixth passage and wins; third position for the revelation Domenico Passanisi.

SCOOTER 100 BIG EVOLUTION OPEN: WHIPPING ON THE HORSES
The long straight line on the return of Castelletto track gives this class the chance to exploit all the power available of these scooters. Its protagonists know that; in fact Tiraferri just starts in Race 1 to make important tests of some new technical details. This test allows him to stand out before the excellent Nico Morelli and the other official Polini rider, Julien Vitali. In Race 2, Morelli sprints at the head of the group, but the aggressive Righetti attacks him and gets the leadership. Behind, Vitali chases and attacks Righetti and comes to lead the race. Ciacci enters the fray and takes over the third position, to the detriment of Morelli. After some laps, the contact between Righetti and Morelli will push them out of race. They start again, even though Morelli has more difficulty to get out of gravel. On the sixth lap, Vitali is on the run, Rota is second and the rediscovered Scribano (barely prepared) is third. Final shock: Rota falls down and opens the road to Scribano, he will end on second place behind Vitali, while Righetti recovers in third position.

Race 2 is marked by an excited initial phase; Penzo sprints at the head of race, tries to escape, Modena chases him, but on the big turn before the straight line that is 350 metres long, exceeds with gas and falls. Once he starts again, he will make an exceptional recovery, going from 16th position to the final 5th. On podium, Angeli, Novelli and an excellent Ceriotti.
